Floor gaps appear over time no matter the quality of installation, because timber contracts and expands as temperature and humidity changes. Filling gaps is something that brings uniform finish to your floor and helps prevent draughts. There are two major methods employed by FlooringFirst professionals to address floor gaps.
Resin-based filling of gaps under 6mm is the cheaper and conventional option. It involves mixing resin-based filler with saw dust that came off during floor sanding with 80grit abrasives. While being cheaper, this is the least effective approach as well, especially in the case of 4-6mm floor gaps, because once dry, the mix tends to chip off easily.
Filling gaps with wood splinters is much more effective and we recommend it where possible, because the filler becomes a permanent feature of your floor. The result is striking and well worth the small extra cost.
Keep in mind - wood is natural material that expands and contracts with time, so eventually, any filler will work loose and eventually chip off.
Staining wood floors is an unexpensive way of bringing your dull, color-washed floor back to life. If properly carried out, staining makes your floor look absolutely authentic. So, you feel tired of the color of your existing flooring? Or feel like having it replaced with new type of timber, but think that´s be too expensive? FlooringFirst offers a comprehensive range of staining solutions and can help you solve your flooring problem with ease. We use only products manufactured by industry leaders and deliver any color or shade you can imagine. Finally, staining requires expertise and may add to the overall length of the project, but you will be amazed at the results and the extra time is well worth it.
